Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday morning, with an ambulance and a paramedic in a car tending to the young victim's injuries.

She was taken to the William Harvey Hospital with a head injury after being treated at the scene.

Witness David O'Brien said: "I was in Queen Street when the Domino's sign fell, it fell at 10.42am making a huge racket.

"The injured girl was still there with a crowd around her.

"I think the ambulance was there within 10 minutes and they treated her inside the ambulance, a critical car response car arrived half an hour later."

Domino’s spokesman, Will Hill, said the firm was "shocked" to hear of the incident on Sunday, and said: "We wish the child involved a swift recovery".

He added today: "At Domino's, the safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount and we have been liaising with the local council to identify how this incident happened.

"The investigation is still ongoing but after liaising with the relevant authorities and local council, the store currently plans to reopen from Wednesday."

A police spokeswoman confirmed the force was not called to the scene.
