Dover Athletic chairman Jim Parmenter says he is 'bitterly disappointed' with the club's 'unacceptable' form and was seeking a crisis meeting with boss Martin Hayes.

The Whites have lose five of seven games since the FA Cup third round defeat at Huddersfield and Parmenter told the club's official website he would be talking to Hayes, who took over in the Crabble hotseat last summer.

Parmenter (pictured) refused to issue a 'vote of confidence' in Hayes after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to struggling Weston-Super-Mare, but added: "We need to have some serious discussions over the next day or two about the future direction of Dover Athletic in light of these poor results."

He said: "Our number one aim has always been promotion and now we're struggling to even get into the play-offs, which is certainly not what we hoped for.

"We are struggling at the moment and these are the times in football you least enjoy. I am terribly disappointed with how things are going."

He added: "After our recent run of results, I was looking for a good reaction on Saturday and was not expecting what we all saw."

Hayes admitted: "We deserve everything that came our way from the fans after the Weston game. We were awful. It's not the sort of performance we were expecting and I admit things have gone flat for us in recent weeks.

"Fans demand passion and hard work and we just did not show any of that on Saturday. It was absolutely rubbish."

He added: "We've now got to go away and look at a few things - and for starters make sure we put in good performances, starting at Havant, hopefully, on Monday night."

He said: "We can still make the play-offs because there are plenty of points still to play for. We're not giving up now."
