GOOD WEEKEND: Ben Smissen

KENT rower Ben Smissen enjoyed a great weekend at the Great Britain trial over the five-kilometre course at Boston at the weekend.

In the last trial before the Great Britain spring assessments, the 17-year-old Deal Rowing Club member Smissen, along with new partner Tom Lucy, won both their races on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday Smissen and Lucy, from Monmouth School, set off first and won by 15 seconds in a time of 18mins 43 secs.

The on SUnday they went even quicker, covering the 5,000m Lincolnshire course in 18:01.

The pair now go onto the final trials at Nottingham next month with the aim of being selected for the Munich Regatta after Easter.

Ben has already had a taste of international competition. He rowed for Britain in the junior coxless fours at last year's world junior championships in Spain.
