Recognition for his help in fighting crime has been given to Walmer pensioner Peter Rothschild OBE who is Kent Police’s oldest serving volunteer.

Mr Rothschild, 88, was thanked for 18 years of commitment by superintendent Sean Beautridge and handed a special award for long service during a presentation at Deal Police Station.

The retired road haulage professional is a Police Support Volunteer but specialises in Neighbourhood Watch, an organisation he has been involved in since the early 1990s.

He said: "About 18 years ago, the chairman who organised Neighbourhood Watch here got in touch with me and asked me to help in Deal Library to publicise Neighbourhood Watch."
