Man dies after railway bridge crash in Walmer, Deal

A 21-year-old man has died after a car he was travelling in crashed into a railway bridge.

The incident happened at 2.30am when a red Volkswagen Polo was travelling along Cornwall Road towards Hamilton Road in Deal.

The victim from the Aylesham area was confirmed dead at the scene.

Two men sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital. A woman also required medical treatment for minor injuries.

The B2056 Hamilton Road in Walmer was cordoned off for 10 hours following the collision.

The accident happened under the bridge near Deal Parochial Primary School.

The road was shut in both directions between Telegraph Road and Gladstone Road to allow accident investigation work to be carried out.

It had reopened by 1pm.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who saw the car before the collision, or who has private CCTV or dashcam footage that might assist to come forward.
