Emergency surgery for teenager after crash

An 17-year-old is in a critical condition after he and a teenage girl, both pedestrians, were involved in an accident with a car in London Road, Dover.

Will Roberts, from Canterbury, and Danielle Watson, 16, from Dover, were hit by a black Vauxhall Zafira at 5.17pm on Monday.

London Road and Beaconsfield Road were closed for more than three hours as a Kent Air Ambulance helicopter landed in the playground of Barton Junior School before flying Will to the Royal London Hospital.

He suffered severe head injuries which required neuro-surgery on admission.

Media relations assistant for Kent Air Ambulance Nicci Chrisp said they received the call from a land ambulance crew that attended the scene.

“The doctor who accompanied him on the hour long air and road journey said the patient was stable for the transportation,” she said.

Natalie suffered minor injuries.

The car driver is a 44-year-old man from Dover.His vehicle has been confiscated by police.

Will is a former pupil of Canterbury High School. His mother, Michelle, of Querns Road, Canterbury, is at his bedside.

The Kent Police serious crash investigation unit is appealing for witnesses. A police spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a hit and run.
