Fatal blaze: inquest date fixed

AN INQUEST will be opened on Thursday into the death of a man who died in a fire in a ground floor flat in Dover early on Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Mayfield Avenue at 5am and removed the 53-year-old man's body from the Victorian building. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The fire had been contained to the bedroom of the flat where it started. There was no smoke alarm fitted in the property.

The victim has not yet been named. The inquest will be opened at Ashford Magistrates' Court.
