Further delay in launch of new ferry service

THE launch of a new ferry service between Dover and Boulogne has been delayed again, and may not now start until next spring.

In announcing the delay, SpeedFerries said it was entirely related to the "process of securing optimal conditions for the start-up".

"This has been more time consuming than expected, especially in relation to negotiations with sub-contractors and joint venture partners," said managing director Curt Stavis.

"For the next month, SpeedFerries will continue to pursue the possibility of a launch this summer. The decision will depend on the criteria being met.

"Alternatively, the ferry operation will start in approximately nine months time, in the early spring."

The launch date is expected to be announced on August 8. SpeedFerries is planning to offer the fastest ferry crossing on the Channel, a "high quality travel experience with unique customer benefits", and competitive pricing.

"It is a key responsibility of the management of SpeedFerries to ensure the achievement of these goals before the actual launch," said Mr Stavis.
