THE Bishop of Dover has had some extra people added to his flock - more than 2,500 Falkland Islanders.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has appointed the Rt Rev Stephen Venner as his Episcopal Commissary for the Falkland Islands.

Bishop Stephen, who continues as the Bishop of Dover, will also be known as the Bishop for the Falkland Islands and will, in effect, become the Anglican Bishop for the islands.

A spokesman for the Archbishop said the appointment had been made to enhance the provision of pastoral care for the islanders and oversight for the islands’ parish, which is served by Christ Church Cathedral, Stanley.
