The train operator tweeted shortly before 3pm about the incident.

"A lorry has hit a bridge near Kearsney, and the line between Kearsney and Dover is blocked until response staff can check the bridge for damage," it said.

Bosses say the 1.10pm Victoria to Dover and 3.16pm Dover to Victoria trains are likely to be disrupted.

A tweet shortly before 3.30pm says the line is still block as the lorry is stuck under the bridge.

"The tyres are being let down on the lorry to lower it, so it can be removed and trains can run over the bridge again," it added.

The operator has since confirmed the line has reopened after the lorry was moved.

Pictures show police at the scene of the incident and traffic queuing in the area.
