The A20 has now fully reopened almost 12 hours after a lorry burst into flames on the westbound carriageway at Dover.
Emergency crews had rushed to the scene after the fire erupted shortly before 12.30am.
About 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which was extinguished by 2am.
A fuel spillage left the road shut between the A256 before Aycliffe, and B2011 at Capel-le-Ferne.
One lane reopened shortly after 9am and the other at about midday.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been an overheated exhaust turbo.
A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "The HGV, which was carrying around 30 tons of frozen potato chips, suffered extensive fire, heat and smoke damage."
KFRS has been asked to confirm this figure.
The driver of the HGV escaped serious injury.
