Temple Ewell Primary School has been praised by MP Charlie Elphicke after it was rated the best in the district by a national guide.
The school’s Year 6 pupils have also achieved 100% in literacy and maths for the past two years, head teacher Angela Matthews confirmed.
The School Guide, an online publication, lists primary and secondary schools across the country with key information about success rates and exam grades.
Ms Matthews said: “We are extremely pleased and proud of our staff and children who work very hard.
“Our staff work hard to make sure the curriculum is engaging for our pupils.”
Last week Mr Elphicke was given a tour of the campus and was able to visit children and chat about their work.
He also spoke to the head teacher about the classrooms, with years reception to 4 being taught in mobile huts, and only Year 5 and 6 schooled in the main building.
The Tory said:“Temple Ewell Primary School is a great example of a really outstanding local school.
“It is really impressive that they have achieved 100% literacy, and this is something that all of the schools in our area need to be striving for.
“It is fantastic to hear that their hard work and dedication have been recognised by The Schools Guide. I was really impressed by the work I saw pupils doing.
“Newer, better classrooms would really help the children in their learning and development in what already is a great school environment.”
Ms Matthews said the school put in a bid to the government for a rebuild, but this was refused.
Another has been put forward in the hope that the younger classes will eventually be taught in buildings, with suitable access for disabled children.
She said: “We do notice it when it’s cold and it’s raining but we do maintain the huts well.
“We are doing what we can, but it would help us as well to be open to children of all needs.”
