Dent's header sets up Crabble replay

NICKY DENT: second half equaliser

Scarborough 1 Dover Athletic 1

NICKY DENT’S second-half goal earned Dover an excellent draw in this FA Trophy 4th round tie and it provided the Kent club with the chance to claim another Conference scalp in next Monday’s replay at Crabble.

After two postponements, Whites finally made the long trip to the north Yorkshire coast. With Steve Norman and Andy Arnott suspended, and Danny Chapman not fully recovered from a groin strain, local youngsters Michael Smissen and Danny Welch were named on the bench.

The game started with Matt Carruthers and then Darren Davies receiving treatment after foul challenges by the home side that went unpunished.

Dover keeper Paul Hyde could do nothing about Boro’s goal in the 25th minute. Former Dover striker Keith Scott headed down and Dave Pounder shot home from ten yards out.

Dover's Simon Glover replaced Darren Davies at the interval, and Dover’s more attacking formation began to bring greater reward, though Scarborough still threatened whenever they had the ball.

The home side’s Tom Raw was shown a yellow card for diving in the Dover penalty area, and the Whites survived another loud penalty appeal seconds afterwards.

Dover began to break with purpose and after 70 minutes Glover made ground down the right before crossing to the unmarked Dent who netted with a diving header.

Dover Athletic: Hyde; Browne, Davies (Glover h-t), Readings, Patterson, Dyer, Day, Spiller, Tyne, Dent, Carruthers. Subs: Welch, Smissen, Wietecha.
