Boy suffers burns in house fire

A BOY of 12 is being treated at a special burns unit after a blaze broke out in his bedroom.

He suffered burns to both legs after the blaze at his house in Hazebrouck Road, Faversham, on Saturday afternoon. The premises were left uninhabitable.

The fire started while the boy was putting together a fishing light powered by camping gas. It ignited and set fire to the room.

Firefighters managed to stop the blaze from spreading to the house next door.

The boy was in the house with his mother who was unhurt. A spokesman said that, at its height, the blaze was very intense.

The boy is being treated in the burns unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead in Sussex.
