Alex Branson-Cole will aim to set off some fireworks of his own on his return to action.

The professional boxer from Faversham, who hasn’t had a competitive bout since June, will head to the Tolworth Recreation Centre this weekend.

It’s likely to be Branson-Cole’s final bout of 2022 and, with the contest falling on Fireworks Night, he’s out to finish the year with a bang.

The roofer said: “I’m fighting on November 5 so that’s Fireworks Night. I’m hoping to go out with a bang and let off some fireworks.

“I might need a long rest on the back of it because I have been training for a long time for it. So it’s probably the last one of the year.

“But I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully, I can go again in February.”

He expects to come up against Bahadur Karami, an Iranian who lives in the Manchester area, in a four-round contest as he looks to make his record 3-0 since turning professional earlier this year.

“I did want six rounds but I couldn’t get that for this one. But it’s another four-rounder against a tough opponent,” said Branson-Cole, who trains at Creekside Boxing Club in the town.

“He will be the most game and most aggressive one. That’s what I want - I want to progress in the rankings.

"He has had two fights, the same as me, and he stopped the last bloke.

“I think he’s an Iranian national champion but I have done all the training and I’m ready.”

It’s estimated around 60 people will head to the Surbiton venue to support Branson-Cole.

He said: “That’s good support, it’s been hard for people because it’s tough times at the moment. No one knows what is happening.

“All the support I’m getting, it’s really appreciated. I will have to put on a good performance and give them their money’s worth!”

Branson-Cole, sponsored by Quadrant Plumbing, Kent Surfacing Ltd, Hadley Electrical Services, SimCig Limited, Diamond Carpentry and Boosted, will use the profits from his ticket sales to buy essential items for the Faversham Foodbank.

“They’re happy for me to work alongside them and spread awareness,” he explained.

“A lot of people, especially younger people, may not be aware of them so that’s another little thing that I’m doing.”

Branson-Cole had been due to visit The York Hall in September but, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, that fight was cancelled.
