Faversham Town appoint Sammy Moore as their new manager

Faversham have named Sammy Moore as their new manager after sacking Simon Austin.

Moore has left Isthmian Premier leaders Potters Bar to take on the challenge of saving the Lilywhites from relegation.

He succeeds Austin, who was sacked on Sunday night after just 40 days at the helm, with Darren Beale appointed assistant boss.

Moore's first game in charge will be a bottom-of-the-table clash at home to Corinthian this Saturday.

The Lilywhites are in trouble at the foot of Isthmian South East, sitting nine points from the relegation play-off places.

But in Moore, who transformed Potters Bar from relegation candidates to promotion contenders in the league above, the Lilywhites are confident they have the right man.

Faversham chairman Gary Smart said: "This appointment shows a massive statement of our intentions for the Lilywhites.

"Sammy and his team understand the objectives ahead and are fully committed to the project and come into the club on a long-term agreement.

"The board are sure that we have got the right men in to progress the club forward with the experience of managing in all levels of the Isthmian League."

Kent-based Moore, 35, enjoyed a successful playing career, with spells as Ipswich, Brentford, Dover and Leyton Orient, but he's probably best-known for his five-year stay at AFC Wimbledon.

He moved into management with Leatherhead five years ago and has also been in charge of Concord and Hemel Hempstead.

Moore said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be appointed Faversham Town first-team manager.

"After meeting the chairman it was very clear to see there is a huge project here and a clear vision for success.

"It’s been no secret we wanted to come back to Kent and be closer to the family but we felt it had to be the right club and the right fit.

"With the new 3G going down next season there is a real excitement around the place.

"We come into the club in a very difficult position and we know we have a huge task ahead of us.

"But we as a management team are confident in our own ability and experience that results and smiles on faces are just around the corner.

"I really look forward to meeting everyone soon and please get behind us as we have a huge 22 games and your support is vital both home and away."
