Faversham Town manager Sammy Moore can see the Lilywhites transforming into his type of side; East Grinstead Town away next in Isthmian South East

Boss Sammy Moore can see Faversham transforming into his type of side.

Moore described their display in Tuesday’s 2-2 Isthmian South East draw at Haywards Heath as the best of his tenure - despite a late leveller denying him a first competitive win at the helm.

A header by defender Jacques Kpohomouh and debutant Bode Anidugbe’s penalty looked to have set basement boys Town towards three points, only for a mistake by goalkeeper George Bentley to allow Heath’s Alex Laing to score his second from a free-kick.

Moore reflected: “It’s disappointing and we’re frustrated.

“We dominated the game from start to finish, I think they had two chances on goal and got two goals.

“It’s the best we have played since we have been there as a management team and we played some really good stuff at times.

“We started to look like the teams I put together. It’s frustrating that their goals are from mistakes by George. We don’t throw people under the bus, but he knows he needs to do better.

“But there’s so many positives from that performance. Club volunteers and the board were saying that it’s the best they have played all season.

“We’re now finally getting a settled team that we can put out every week.”

The draw came after a 2-1 loss against promotion-chasing Chatham on Saturday despite Kieron Campbell’s late consolation strike.

Moore said: “The main thing was we wanted a reaction after the Chatham game and we got it.

“I think the statistics show we had about 18 shots and nine or 10 on target.

"The two centre midfielders in Bode and Toby Ajala were outstanding and we had pace on the wing. Their full-backs couldn’t deal with us.

“Up until 90 minutes, we thoroughly deserved the three points. But that’s football.”

Defender Darren Phillips has also signed while Tom Kleywegt provides competition in the goalkeeping department, with midfielder Kieron McCann set to return this Saturday at East Grinstead.

Moore said: “We have got Tom in. He has been training with us for a while.

“Ideally, in every position, we want competition for places.

"We still have Kieron McCann to come back in, he has been away. So all of a sudden, our midfield will be very strong.

"We want it to be an environment where people have to fight for their place.”

But there have been departures as well.

“With Toby Bancroft, we had seven days in for him,” said Moore. "He has left to go to Hythe.”

Versatile defender Dan Carrington has also left the club.

One of just two league victories so far this term for Town came against weekend hosts East Grinstead in November, while high-flying Beckenham are scheduled to visit Salters Lane on Tuesday.

Moore said: “I don’t fear anyone in the league.

“If we turn up and stop making individual mistakes, we will win more games than we lose.

“It’s another chance on Saturday to go and get three points. If we play like we did on Tuesday, we can get three points and then look forward to Beckenham coming here.

“If our performances are right and everyone’s at it, we will win games.”

The Lilywhites are some 13 points away from total safety but Moore says their first objective is to simply get into a relegation play-off place.

The bottom two will automatically go down, with third-bottom and fourth-bottom in the league then having to play further matches to ensure their survival.

He said: “Our initial objective is to get into the play-offs.

"Can we get to where Sittingbourne are? We are currently nine points off it.

"It’s a massive ask.”
