Faversham Town manager Ray Turner hopes signing of Stuart King will help fire Lilywhites to Ryman League Premier Division

Ray Turner hopes he has added the final pieces to a promotion-winning puzzle after bringing prolific striker Stuart King and promising midfielder Chris Webber to Faversham Town.

King has had spells at Maidstone, Folkestone, Whitstable, Ramsgate and more recently Herne Bay, where he scored 23 goals in 36 appearances this season.

He has been freed from his contract at Winch’s Field for personal reasons and Turner revealed the 26-year-old contacted Town to offer to help fire them to the Ryman League, Premier Division.

Turner said: “He has shown his intent and ambition. Stuart phoned me and said he wanted to come and hopefully help us get promoted. We genuinely didn’t even discuss money, which shows the type of player he is.

“He knows he is going to have to fight for his place and he’s prepared to do that.

“We have Jack Harris and Dean Grant who have been doing well but he’ll get an opportunity to show what he can do in the weeks to come.”

Turner added: “I have spoken to managers who have worked with him and it’s a no brainer for the last seven weeks of the season. It’s not costing us too much and he could potentially make the difference for us in the remaining games.”

Webber, 20, joins after being released from his contract at Billericay, having played at Gillingham until the age of 16 and at the Dagenham & Redbridge Academy until the age of 18.

Turner added: “Chris is studying in Canterbury and has been training with us. He has impressed us a lot and fits in well.”

Town tightened their grip on second with a 2-0 win at Guernsey on Saturday.

Turner said: “We were magnificent. It was the best performance of the season and if it had not been for the brilliance of their keeper, it could have been five or six.”

He added: “They replicated a play-off scenario. They had all their big-guns out, a big crowd and they had built the game up as a must-win but we dominated them.”

The only downside of the day was John Scarborough being unable to travel after mislaying his passport.

Turner added: “It didn’t become apparent until late on the Friday night when we were at the hotel at Gatwick. Luckily, he won’t need one to get to Faversham on Saturday.”

Scarborough is set to replace Matt Bourne who begins a three-game ban against Whyteleafe at Salters Lane (3pm).
