Bedfordshire man charged after assault in Grand Burstin Hotel, Folkestone

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman in a hotel in Folkestone.

Gavin Hamilton has been accused of attacking a woman after attempting to force her to withdraw previous allegations against him.

Police were called to the Grand Burstin Hotel in Marine Parade on Saturday morning following reports of the attack.

When officers attended the hotel, it was alleged that the attacker had put pressure on the woman to withdraw allegations she had previously made against him.

Folkestone's Vulnerability Investigation Team launched an investigation, and a man was arrested three days later in the Dartford area.

Mr Hamilton, 42, from Flitwick in Bedfordshire, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, witness intimidation, criminal damage and two counts of assault.

He appeared before Sevenoaks Maisgrates' Court on Wednesday, and was remanded in custody to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, August 17.
