A20 Roundhill Tunnel in Folkestone reopens after ‘technology issue’

A major road has reopened after being closed to motorists in both directions due to a “technology issue” last night.

The A20 Roundhill Tunnel in Folkestone was shut between the M20 Junction 13 for Castle Hill Interchange and the A260 Spitfire Interchange.

Drivers were being redirected via the A260 Canterbury Road roundabout.

Those travelling eastbound were advised to follow the hollow circle symbol on road signs and those heading westbound should follow the hollow square symbol.

The county’s roads felt the strain from the aftermath of Storm Ciaran, with Brock Zero being deployed on M20 as freight vehicle queues build.

National Highways are warning drivers to allow for extra journey time due to the diversion.

They add: “Road users heading to France using the Kent ports are advised to plan ahead, leave extra time for their journey and to check with their operator before they travel.”
