Sailor drifting helplessly for three days in Channel rescued by Kent Police

A sailor "drifting hopelessly for three days" has been rescued off the Kent coast.

The Kent Marine Unit team towed the stricken yacht this morning to a nearby port, and its sailor is "extremely grateful".

The vessel lost power on Thursday when its engine failed - no radio was on board.

Kent Police Tactical Operations said in a Tweet today: "This yacht was found drifting in the Channel with a failed engine and no radio.

"The person on board told us he had been drifting hopelessly for three days.

"Kent Marine Unit have towed an extremely grateful sailor and his yacht in to the safety of a port."
