A speaker due to address a Ukip meeting last night did not turn up after an impassioned rant making several offensive remarks in the aftermath of Wednesday's terrorist attack in Paris.

Steve Barratt of the Thanet Fisherman's Association (TFA) posted the outburst on his Facebook page following the shootings at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in the French capital, which killed 12 people.

Mr Barratt had been lined up to speak at a public meeting at Folkestone's Southcliff Hotel about Kent's fishing industry which was organised by Ukip's parliamentary candidate, Janice Atkinson.

Yesterday, Mr Barratt apologised for the comments he made but never appeared on the stage to present his talk and was replaced by TFA chairman John Nichols.

Mr Nichols modestly apologised to the audience for any potential lack of preparation as he had not expected to be speaking but rather sitting watching amongst the public.

Mr Barratt made a number of comments directed at the suspects in the attack about the Prophet Muhammad questioning: "Who cares about the prophet?" referring to the suspects as "rag heads".

He then launched into a tirade against the suspects telling them "if you don't like our western culture to **** off back to where you came from" and that because "you didn't like living in a third world **** hole so you decided to be unhappy in the west".

Ten journalists and cartoonists and two police officers were killed in the attack on Wednesday morning and a manhunt is continuing across northern France today.

World leaders have condemned the attacks with French president Francois Hollande calling it an act of "exceptional barbarity".

Mr Barratt said: "I was so angry yesterday that this happened that I may have posted something that could have offended people so I can only apologise for this and I have removed the post.

"Humour is a big part of my life and long may it continue."

A protest is due to be held outside the meeting by an anti-Ukip group campaigning "against UKIP and all forms of bigotry and xenophobia".

The Folkestone United group posted a tweet to both Ukip and Ms Atkinson calling on them to comment on the inclusion of Mr Barratt at the meeting.

Ms Atkinson is yet to respond to KentOnline's request for a comment.
