FA question Invicta over ref walk-off

A LETTER has been written to Folkestone Invicta by the Football Association asking for its observations on the game which saw a referee leave the pitch, upset by a barrage of abuse from the dug out and stands.

Gavin Hoare walked away from the game with Hampton and Richmond Borough at the Westbourne Stadium on January 22 after 65 minutes and appeared to have abandoned the match in front of the stunned crowd.

Play eventually re-started when he was persuaded to return following a delay of more than 10 minutes.

The official is believed to have felt threatened after being verbally barracked by supporters.

Mr Hoare has detailed his reasons to the Football Association and an investigation is underway.
