KENT duo Devon Amos and Ashlea Fry returned triumphant to Folkestone from the finals of the RLSS United Kingdom Lifesaving Championships at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield.

The 13-year-olds, from Folkestone Sports Centre Swimming Club, had qualified to represent the South East England region in the junior pairs – aged 12 to 14 years – section of the championships.

They were in competition with the champions of all-Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the nine other English regions.

The Folkestone youngsters were ecstatic to finish as English champions and in the overall silver medal position, behind the winners who were the Scottish champions.

The championships had four separate elements – a water-based rescue, a life support (resuscitation and first aid) incident, a line throw and rescue race and a swim and tow race.
