A burglar attacked a person who interrupted them mid-raid prompting a helicopter search.

The chopper was scrambled after reports of a crime in progress at a property in Old Road East, Gravesend, just before 1pm.

The suspect is said to have been interrupted by a member of the public, who they assaulted before leaving the area.

Officers carried out an extensive search with the assistance of the National Police Air Service.

A man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.

He was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and remains in custody as inquiries continue.

No serious injuries have been reported.
