Bush tucker could soon be finding its way onto barbecues in one part of Kent.

Exotic meat including buffalo, reindeer, camel, ostrich, kangaroo, crocodile and even zebra might be sizzling over coals this summer in Gravesham.

Imported from the plains of South Africa, Australian outback and Swedish slopes, these unusual cuts of game have travelled a long way to make it onto the shelves of Butcher JM Danslow.

But according to shop manager Scott Cassettari, it's well worth the journey.

He said: "These meats are low in cholesterol and high in protein. Kangaroo is just like a rump steak, but when you cook it there's not one bit of fat.

"It's a great alternative for the barbecue and these meats are great if you're looking for a healthy diet."

Claiming to be the only supplier of 'exotic' meats in the area, this butcher is hoping crocodile meat and other delicacies will be snapped up by the people of Gravesham.

To introduce them, JM Danslow is holding a free taster session on Thursday, July 10, between 1pm and 2pm.

Mr Cassettari, 40, said: "We want people to come along and try what's on offer. It is a healthy option and it is always nice to try something different. We can also help people with recipe ideas if they need some inspiration."

Mr Cassettari added: "We can order in anything you want, even squirrel. The only reason we don't have it in at the moment is because it's so expensive.

"Python costs £80 per lb, but if you pop in and see us or give us a call, we can get in anything you want."
