Firefighters tackle Swanscombe scrapyard blaze

Firefighters have spent more than eight hours at a scrapyard after hundreds of tonnes of rubbish went up in flames.

Crews from Thames-side, Dartford and Swanscombe were called to the fire at Ace Car Breakers, in Manor Way, Swanscombe, at about 12.30am today (Tuesday).

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire is unknown, but an estimated 200 tonnes of rubbish had been alight.

He added there was no danger of the blaze spreading to nearby properties or businesses.

Firefighters were still there this morning damping down the flames and making the scene safe.
