KENT Police today appealed for information about a road traffic collision that has left a young man in a critical condition in hospital.

The incident occurred in London Road, Gravesend, close to the junction with St James’ Road, at around 12.30am on Sunday.

It is believed that the victim, in his 20s and possibly Polish, was lying in the road when he was in collision with a vehicle travelling from Gravesend towards Northfleet.

He suffered serious head and abdominal injuries and was taken to a hospital in London for treatment.

Police say the driver of the vehicle involved has been located but they would like to hear from anyone who witnessed either the incident or any incident prior to this that the victim may have been involved in."

Det Insp Simon Thompson, of Gravesend Police, said: “We have very little information about how this man came to be lying in the road. It is possible that he fell or that he was the victim of an attack.

“This is a busy road and there would have been traffic around at that time as people made their way home from a night out. We need to hear from anyone who saw either the collision or the victim near to the Iceland shop at that time.”

The incident is being investigated by members of Kent Police's Serious Crash Investigation Unit.

Anyone with information which may be of help to police is asked to telephone the witness line, in confidence, on 01622 798538.
