Gravesend Asda shopper injured after oxygen cylinder catches fire

A shopper has been taken to hospital with burns to his face and hands after an oxygen cylinder caught fire in a Gravesend supermarket today.

The man, in his 50s, was in Asda with his mother, who uses an oxygen cylinder for medical reasons.

As he put it in the trolley the cylinder failed and caught fire.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the shop in Thames Way at 9am where crews put out the blaze by cooling the cylinder with water.

An ambulance was called and the man, whose hands and face were burnt, was taken to hospital.

An investigation into the failure of the cylinder is underway.
