Mr Tricker said: “I have had a fantastic time at Cyclopark and am amazed at what we have managed to build up. I will miss working with the dedicated team but I’m pleased there is a strong legacy to leave behind.

“This year has been a record for visitors and especially successful in encouraging local community involvement; we are now seeing more new riders than ever before give cycling a try, which is what we are all about.

“I wish the team every success in the future and will now enjoy having some time to get out on my own two wheels.”

Norman Blissett, chairman of the trust, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to wish Laurence every success for the future, he has championed Cyclopark since its inception and has achieved a great deal in the last seven years establishing Cyclopark as a leading sports facility with strong links with the local and sporting communities.”

Mike Stevens has been appointed as interim chief executive before the trust starts recruiting for a permanent CEO in early 2016.

Mr Blissett, said: “Mike’s experience in his career to date, including CEO of London Welsh Rugby Club and Event Services Director with Sportsworld, will help him to lead and successfully coordinate the charitable and commercial offering of Cyclopark.

“Mike will continue to meet the park’s mission statement to encourage the local community to get active and come cycling. He will also be tasked at looking for more opportunities to bring exciting cycling and sporting action to the park as well as exploring other innovative ways to encourage more people to enjoy our great facility in another Olympic year.”
