Newsagent robbery in Meopham

Thieves smashed their way into a newsagents before making off with a large amount of cigarettes.

Two men broke into the newsagent in Nevill Place, Meopham, yesterday at 2am.

The glass of the door had been broken causing a significant amount of damage.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that a large quantity of cigarettes had been stolen.

Officers and forensic investigators attended the scene and have now made an appeal for information.

Detective Constable Natalie Williams said: "We believe that two men, dressed in tracksuit bottoms and hooded tops, broke in to the shop just before 2am.

"I urge anyone with information about the burglary to contact officers as a matter of urgency, as even the smallest detail may help us to locate the offenders."
