Police have moved on travellers from Milton Place car park in Gravesend

Police have removed a group of travellers from a town centre car park.

Seven caravans arrived at council-owned Milton Place car park in Gravesend on Sunday, March 25.

The owners were asked to remove their vehicles by officers on Tuesday, March 27, at around 1pm.

The site, which is based alongside Gravesend's promenade, does not allow motorhome parking.

A spokesman for Gravesham Borough Council said: "A number of caravans plus other vehicles arrived at Milton Place car park on Sunday, March 25, at around 6pm."

The council served notice on Monday, March 26 requiring vacation within 24 hours.

A spokesman added on Tuesday: "The police have made the operational decision to use the powers available to them to move the travellers on."

By Tuesday afternoon, the group had left the site.
