A town centre pub has been closed after it was deluged with complaints of noise and rowdiness.

The Trocadero in Windmill Street, Gravesend was shut today - just hours after a crunch meeting between the licensee, police, Gravesham Borough Council and the owners, Swan Inns.

This is the first time a Gravesend pub has been closed due to such complaints.

The catalogue of disturbances have included police being called to 15 separate incidents of disorder or similar offences in the last 10 weeks.

In the end the landlord left by mutual arrangement with police.

The pub may reopen early next month pending a meeting with a new licensee.

Sergeant Graham James from Kent Police’s licensing department in North Kent said: “We had become aware of numerous breaches of the Licensing Act at these premises and had received a number of complaints from both business and shoppers about the behaviour of those who were drinking at the Trocadero.

“Working closely with Gravesham Council, Kent Fire and Rescue and the brewery, we were able to take action to close this pub until a new licensee can be put in place. The successful closure of the premises also demonstrates that we can and will take action against those who operate with complete disregard for the rules and regulations.”
