A227 Wrotham Road closed in Meopham Green due to water leak

An emergency road closure has been put in place after a water leak in a village.

The A227 Wrotham Road is shut between Meopham Green and Cricketers Drive, Meopham, near Gravesend, in both directions.

Video footage from 7am today shows cars mounting the pavement as they attempt to drive past the barriers.

An empty bus was also parked up to the side as it looked unable to get through.

Andy Halpin tweeted the clip and described the situation as "absolute carnage".

There is no access through that part of the village but a diversion route is in place via Shipley Hills Road, Hartley Bottom Road and Chapmans Hill.

"Our team are currently working onsite to locate the main and assess the condition. Further updates will be provided in due course."
