Kent train services disrupted after fight breaks out in carriage at Woolwich

A fight between two men on a train, one of whom was wielding a hammer, delayed services into Kent this evening.

Passengers were evacuated from the Gravesend service and were stuck on the platform while police dealt with the attack.

Witnesses say two men started a punch up in a carriage on the Gravesend service at Woolwich station at about 6pm.

One of the men pulled a hammer, prompting a passenger to pull the emergency cord.

When the doors open the hammer-wielding man fled down the tracks while British Transport Police officers escorted the other man down the carriage and off the train.

The fight is the latest delay besetting Kent services tonight.

Earlier today trains were delayed due to the wrong kind of sun.
