Police convoy with Range Rover and Volvo cars seen driving near Higham and Waiscott on Good Friday

Neighbours gathered round the main street of their village as a huge police convoy drove by.

It was spotted yesterday in the village of Higham, between Gravesend and Strood, at around lunchtime.

It is understood police held back traffic from side roads as it went eastbound on the main road through the village, A226, towards the Wainscott bypass.

Witnesses say the convoy consisted several police motorcycle outriders, 12 dark SUV and limousine-type vehicles with tinted windows and flashing lights, followed by a police Range Rover and another police motorcyclist.

One resident said: "Apparently it, or a similar one, was later seen on Blue Bell Hill.

"It was the sort of convoy consistent with a top politician or royalty.

"It was certainly an unusual sight and would have been seen by hundreds or thousands of people on the road, wherever it was going."

Some even joked on Facebook that the convoy could have been escorting former US President Donald Trump.

Police have been asked for more information.
