Woman released without charge after incident near Whitehill Primary School, Sun Lane, Gravesend

A woman has been released without charge after taking the hand of a child near a busy road outside a primary school.

The child's mother alleged the woman tried to 'snatch' her child just feet from Whitehill Primary School, Sun Lane, Gravesend, but Kent Police says no crime took place.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested and has been released without charge.

Gravesham district commander Chief Inspector Simon Alland said: "While I understand this caused concern to our local community, we have spoken to this woman and are satisfied there was nothing sinister in her intentions.

"She has been given advice regarding how her behaviour could be perceived and officers have been on hand to reassure residents."

The mother, from Gravesend, said: "I'm used to her [the little girl] running off so that's why I was so aware straightaway.

"A fellow parent took her [the woman] and led her to reception and informed the school.

"They didn't want to know, so she left back through the school gates. It was left to us to keep track of her. I feel totally let down.
