An 11-year-old boy has been hit by a car in Northfleet this morning.

Police and an ambulance crew were called just after 7.50am to reports of the youngster being knocked down by the vehicle in Vale Road.

The boy was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with back and abdomen injuries, though it is not believed he is seriously injured.

He remained conscious throughout the incident.

Last Friday, a teenage girl was hit by a car on the same road.

Police were called at 8am. The girl suffered leg injuries and was taken to Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford.

Kent County Council is proposing to install a zebra crossing in Vale Road, near the junction with Colyer Road, in a bid to reduce the number of pedestrians being hit by cars.

Vale Road has seen a number of crashes, four of which, KCC says, involved pedestrians.
