Fleet fail to make chances pay

York City 0 Gravesend & Northfleet 0

A POINT for Gravesend at York City guarantees Conference football at Stonebridge Road next season.

Fleet played the better football but were let down by some poor finishing.

Liam Daish’s side could have taken the lead after just 35 seconds. Roy Essandoh and Andy Drury combined well on the wing and the ball found its way to Jean-Michel Sigere but he fired wide from six yards when he should have scored.

Esandoh missed another good chance after nine minutes.

But having dominated the first half Fleet had Paul Wilkerson to thank for going in level at the break after he produced a superb save in stoppage time.

The second half produced little action.

The closest either side came to scoring was a Matt Lovell header five minutes into the second period which was well saved.

Gravesend also had a penalty appeal for handball turned down by the referee.
