Ebbsfleet United boss Garry Hill hoping to make more new signings this week

Ebbsfleet United are closing in on more new signings.

So far this summer they've brought in defenders Aswad Thomas from Sutton and Ayo Obileye from Maidenhead.

Talks with other players are ongoing and manager Garry Hill says things are progressing nicely.

He said: "I'm talking to players and I think it's going to start livening up this week.

"You have a situation where the end of the season comes, people go away in May and the first couple of weeks in June before clubs go back training at the end of June.

"In the last two weeks of June people come back from holiday, start their pre-season training at clubs, whether they're on trial or whether they're in the manager's plans as well as League clubs going back and National League clubs and there's the start of a lot of activity going on everywhere.

"Players don't want to commit too early but by the same token, nor do managers.

"I'm having positive talks with players and I'd like to feel, by the end of the week, I might have one or two in the building.

"But it always comes down to numbers with players and agents.

"It's a busy time of year for all managers but in my case, it's a very busy time of year.

"It has been ever since the end of the season, there's no secret about that and it will continue to be that way until August.

"We're not even out of June yet so there's a lot more phone calls to be done in and out as to where everyone goes over the summer period."

Ebbsfleet will have some trialists with them at the start of pre-season at least.

Hill said: "There will be one or two coming in but there won't be a lorry-load. You don't want to have too many trialists coming into football clubs because it can become disruptive.

"You have a certain element of a base of your squad, which I've got at the present time, to work with.

Ebou Adams left Ebbsfleet to sign for Forest Green this week but Nathan Ashmore, Jack King, Sean Shields, Corey Whitely and Lawrie Wilson remain under contract for this season.

"I'm always pleased to see players progress," said Hill. "I wish Ebou Adams all the best.

"It's an opportunity for him, he's a good lad and hopefully he can take that opportunity in the right direction.

"I think everybody knows I'm a strong-minded person and if a club comes in for a player, we take a view what's in the best interests of the football club and also to be supportive of the player."
