Hythe Town boss Clive Cook says people should not read too much into the results of the games against Dorking Wanderers and Greenwich Borough

Despite facing off with the other pacesetters in Ryman League Division 1 South this week, Hythe boss Clive Cook says it’s too early to impact the title race.

For the second straight week the Cannons missed the chance to go top as they lost 1-0 at home to second-placed Dorking on Tuesday night with the Surrey side leapfrogging Greenwich Borough, who head to Reachfields on Saturday (3pm).

Town stay third, now five points off the top though with a game in hand, but Cook said: “Personally I don’t think you can read anything into the results this week.

“We’re not even a third of the way through the season. We’ll know more about where we are at Christmas. I don’t particularly want to be top at the moment, for now I’m happy to be tucked into the pack.”

He added: “These are the sort of times that get your heart racing. Greenwich are a good side and are managed well, it should be a really good game on Saturday.

“We just need to keep putting points in the bag. It’s a very tough but exciting month, we’ve got Walton Casuals (away next Tuesday) and the likes of Hastings to come too.”

Top-scorer Alfie May continues to attract interest with a trial at League 1 Gillingham following one with Stevenage of League 2 last week.

Cook said: “We are awaiting developments. There has been a lot of interest and he’s got trials at a couple of places this week and next but he remains available for us.

“He’s just living his dream at the moment, doing what he wants to do, and hopefully he gets to realise that dream because he’s a good lad and he deserves it.”
