A GROUP of businessmen is hoping to break the silence in the sky above Manston.

Flying school TG Aviation is putting together a bid with a group of local business figures to run Kent International Airport, which has been devoid of flights since the demise of EUJet.

TG confirmed that a bid would be put in this week.

Since EUJet and Manston’s owners, PlaneStation, went into administration a fortnight ago, insurance issues mean no aircraft have been allowed to take off or land at the former RAF aerodrome.

TG, based at the airport, has been grounded by the ban and is counting the cost as "substantial". The insurance issue is still in the hands of TG Aviation’s solicitors, who are working to find a solution.

A spokesman for PlaneStation’s administrator, Grant Thornton, said: "The administrators have been working with the firm to do the best they can."

He would not confirm details of bids received for the airport but added: "There have been a number of people interested."
