A PROPOSAL for a huge lorry park for up to 1,500 vehicles is being unveiled by Dover Harbour Board, it has been revealed.

If the scheme is approved, it would bring an end to the controversial Operation Stack whereby lorries wait on the M20 motorway when port operations are delayed.

However, environmental groups insist they want other options explored before a lorry park is built on green belt land.

Harbour board chiefs have not named a site so far but it is thought the park could be between Aycliff and Farthingloe. It is estimated the project could cost up to £30 million.
