Skills council vows to put people first

THE Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has promised to ensure people living in the Thames Gateway have the necessary skills to fill the 300,000 new jobs the development will create.

This commitment was made at an event held at Stratford Town Hall, attended by over 50 key figures involved with the development, by the release of the Thames Gateway Business Plan.

Jacqui Henderson, the LSC’s regional director for London, said: “The Thames Gateway is a unique public-private partnership, and we recognise how important it is to link skills and training with the regeneration infrastructure.

“The Thames Gateway project is evidence of the LSC working with partners to bring expertise together to deliver for local and regional communities.”

The development of the Thames Gateway is Europe’s largest regeneration project with high profile plans to build 120,000 new homes, a new river crossing and a vast amount of new business space by 2016.
