Any greyhound that can run under 24 seconds in either grades A7 and A8 here is guaranteed to win the race.

So I have to bring to your attention the performance last weekend of Moyar Minnie who romped home by nearly five lengths in a time of 23.63 seconds in her A7 race.

The going was given as 0.10 seconds fast so her adjusted time on the card will be 23.73. However, to put this effort into full perspective, on the same card Ryves Rock, who is a class act, won the top grade A1 race in a time of 23.50.

Minnie’s sectional time trap to line was 3.52 seconds while Ryves could only manage 3.55.

On paper, had she been in the A1 race, she would have finished just three lengths behind Ryves which is unbelievable for a young greyhound only having her 10th competitive race.

If she maintains this level of form, she will climb up the grading system and looks like winning plenty of races during the coming weeks.

My newcomer of the week has to be Oakfront Guest who had his first race here on the same card. The dog still has his puppy status as he will not be two until this October and found himself in with some of the big guns for his debut race at A2 level as a result of his excellent set of trials to get onto the race card.

Having completely fluffed his lines when the traps opened, which saw him starting in last position, I was impressed with the way in which he managed to overcome a bumping at the first bend to then run on strongly to finish second in a decent time of 23.58, beaten by just a half a length.

For such an inexperienced dog, he showed a high level of determination and looks set to have a decent career in front of him. Like the aforementioned, he would be a hot tip on his reappearance.

Rockmount Brae who has been close to winning an A5-level race on two occasions recently, finally won in style in a fast time of 23.66 over 380 metres.

In his seven races to date, he has shown that he is hot and cold, trapping with both early pace and missed break notations on his formbook. However, on this occasion, he was spot on, recording a fast 3.56-second sectional time and never looked like being caught on his way to a win.
