Gillingham's reserves earned a point from a 1-1 draw at a Crystal Palace side who had previously won all five games in Football Combination Central Division.

Gills took the lead after just 30 seconds when Bradley Hudson-Odoi and Amoudou Abdullei combined down the left to set up Andy Pugh (pictured) to fire in from the edge of the area.

The Eagles should have levelled soon after as a low cross from Kieran Djilali was blazed over the bar by captain James Cornley and, on 18 minutes, Nathaniel Pinney fired wide from another Djilali centre.

Rashid Yussuff went close with a free-kick after Mark McCammon was brought down outside the box and the fit-again striker headed narrowly over from Yussuff's free-kick from the left soon after.

Djilali flashed a volley past keeper Alan Julian's post before the break and set-up Cornley to fire wide after the restart.

Julian foiled Ryan Smith when through one-on-one, before Tom Bryant sliced an attempted clearance against his own post after a Smith cross.

Mark Robson was sent from the dugout for protesting a challenge on McCammon on the hour and, after dominating much of the second half, the Eagles equalised five minutes from time when Jack Holland powered a header in from Smith's corner.

Julian had to be alert to save Cornley's 40-yard effort as Palace pressed for a winner.

Gillingham: Julian, Brown, Benniman, Bryant, Richards, Yussuff, Pugh, Miller, Abdullei (Triallist 72mins), McCammon, Hudson-Odoi (Fisher 90mins). Subs not used: Hawkes, Humber.
