Appeal after bike rider dies in crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash which claimed the life of a motorcyclist on the A249 at Stockbury, between Sitingbourne and Maidstone.

An elderly couple in a Lada car were injured in the crash which happened on Saturday morning.

The rider of the 1000cc motorcycle, a 43-year-old man from Sittingbourne, died at the scene. His name and address have not yet been released.

A 82 year-old passenger in the Lada, Jean Smith, was taken by the Kent Air Ambulance to Maidstone hospital. She was later transferred to the intensive care unit at St Thomas' Hospital in London where her condition is said to be serious.

Mrs Smith's 78 year-old husband, who was driving the car, was taken to Maidstone hospital suffering from chest injuries and breathing difficulties. He is said to be comfortable.
