Part of the A20 in Aylesford had to be closed this afternoon after a Second World War artillery shell was discovered.

The Army was called in to detonate the device shortly before 1pm.

The road was shut for 300 meters between Coldharbour and the British Legion village.

Kent Police said the shell was discovered at about 12.50pm and the road had to be cleared of debris before it could re-open at about 3.30pm.
