Four teenagers are being hunted after a cat called Buzz Lightyear was kicked to death on his owner's driveway.

The 13-year-old birman cat was sleeping in a quiet cul-de-sac in the village of Tenterden when he was attacked.

He suffered two breaks in his left leg, a breastbone broken in two places, internal bleeding and a bruised jaw.

Buzz had to be put down by a vet, who confirmed he had been kicked in Haffenden Road.

The RSPCA and Kent Police are now hunting his attackers.

Buzz’s owner was at home when he heard what he described as an "awful scream" at about 9.15pm on Monday.

He jumped up and spotted one of the youths by his drive.

The man's neighbour later confirmed four children aged around 15 to 17 had been walking down the street and Buzz could not have been run over as there were no cars passing.

RSPCA inspector Dave Grant said: "We need witnesses to what happened and if anyone knows who these youths are could they please call our information line on 0300-123-8018?

"This cat’s long, happy life was clearly ended very brutally and we will treat any information we get in confidence."
