Car badly damaged by fire

A Ford Focus was badly damaged when its engine caught fire early on Sunday morning.

Crews from Herne Bay and Westgate rushed to the coastbound Thanet Way carriageway between The Roman Galley and the St Nicholas-At-Wade roundabout at 7.45am.

Herne Bay red watch crew manager Paul Austin said: “The driver managed to escape unhurt, but there was substantial damage to both the engine and driver’s compartment.

"Nobody else was hurt and we managed to get the fire under control fairly quickly.”

The fire was put out around 8.15am.
